Big Brothers and Big Sisters serve as friends, mentors, and role models helping children (primarily from single-parents homes) gain more self-confidence, offer encouragement, and assist them in achieving their highest potential. Our mentors provide another positive role model for a child, while supporting and reinforcing the values and goals already set. Volunteer screening and application is handled professionally and carefully. It includes a written application, criminal background check, child abuse check, and DMV report (for the Community Based Program), an extensive interview, at least three required references, a home assessment and a training session.
We are excited about your interest in enrolling a child in the Big Brothers and Sisters Program! Please fill out the form below and we will be in touch with you shortly.
The Youth Assessment involves
A written application
Interviews with the child and the parent/guardian,
Completed child evaluation form which is completed by the school the child attends (parent/guardian obtains this from the school)
A client evaluation if the child is receiving counseling services. (parent/guardian obtains this from the counselor or therapist)
This required information is designed to help the Enrollment Specialist learn more about the child in order to make the best possible match and secure parental permission.
Matches are carefully considered and based upon the needs of the youth, abilities of volunteers, preferences of the parent, and the capacity of program staff.
Once a match is made with a child, ongoing supervision and support is provided, and the parent/guardian has access to advice and guidance throughout the match with the child.
