I have been with the agency for over eleven years. Throughout my time here, I have worked in Match Support and in Partnership Development before taking the leadership position in August of 2007. I have also served as a Big Brother for two separate children during my time with the agency. Improving the lives of children is a mission that is close to my heart, and I have dedicated the last 15 years to working for organizations that do just that. In addition, I currently serve as the President of the Optimist club of Lynchburg. When I am not at work, I enjoy spending time with my wife Jackie and our 8 year old son Lucas, and our 4 year old son Woodrow.

After serving for over 20 years as a fundraiser and Director of Development at multiple Colleges and private educational institutions, I came to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Virginia in January of 2012 as the Special Events & Marketing Coordinator. In my position, I am responsible for organizing and over seeing all fundraising events for the Agency such as Bowl for Kids Sake, which is in its 44th year, and our ever popular annual Big Brothers Big Sisters Golf Classic. In addition, I am responsible for creating and implementing new special events in an effort to raise all important funds to help support our wonderful programs and the volunteers and children that we serve. Some of those new events have included the David Dudley Fishing Tournament, and numerous Winter Black Tie Galas with themes such as Casino Royale, Mardi Gras and Dancing with the Lynchburg STARS. I am also responsible for overseeing all marketing materials and support for our Agency.” I am thrilled to be a part of such an amazing organization and feel blessed to have the opportunity to help change children’s lives for the better – one child at a time!”

My role with the agency is to bring the perfect Volunteer and the perfect Little together. This relationship brings joy into the lives of both individuals, and is what I find most enjoyable. When a volunteer and a child meet for the first time, and the happiness and joy shows on their faces, I realize that what I do really makes a difference. The good thing is that I get to experience this over and over with each match meeting. “Everyone can be great…..because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love”-Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

I am so excited to be here! In addition to working on a Masters of Education, my husband and I are raising our daughter (12) and sons (6) and (2). They are the joy of my life and an absolute blessing! Even though my children, my job and my school work keep me busy, my family and I love visiting local orchards and farms when we have time. My husband is a chef and we love trying new things. Luckily, we were blessed with a daughter that has a palate like our own and rarely turns down a culinary adventure–the verdict is still out on our son. I interned with Big Brothers Big Sisters before I became a Match Support Specialist and believe strongly in our mission and the good work that we do here.

As a Lynchburg native and a past Big Brothers Big Sisters employee, I can truly say that I have a passion for this organization and the children that we serve. I have many years of experience in the area of non-profit work from fundraising to supervising. Every endeavor has given me more of an insight into the needs of the children of our community. As the Site-Based Coordinator, I work with placing volunteers with children in either a school or after-school setting. As I make a new match, I try to remember what a child once said: “I’m one of a kind – And no one can find any kid who will be exactly like me!” – Anonymous
